Modernization of Payment Systems Law in Japan, Effects of the Revised Japanese Insurance Business Act, Family Law in Asia, Specialized Courts in Germany and Japan
Abstract
On 2 March 2017 the Hamburg Max Planck Institute hosted a further installment of its annual lecture program “Current Developments in Japanese Law” in cooperation with the German-Japanese Association of Jurists. The half-day symposium under the moderation of Harald Baum featured four lectures. Professor Souichirou Kozuka (Gakushūin University, Tōkyō) started with a comprehensive overview over the ongoing modernization of payment system law in Japan; Professor Satoshi Nakaide (Waseda University, Tōkyō) then explored the effects of the 2014 revision of the Insurance Business Act on insurance practice in Japan; thereafter Professor Yuko Nishitani (Kyōto University) discussed current developments in selected Asian family laws in a comparative perspective;[1] finally Yoshinori Shimamoto (judge, Kyōto, at present at the University of Hamburg) analyzed the different roles of specialized courts in Germany and their functional equivalents in Japan. The lectures are presented hereafter in a slightly revised version.
