Abstract

After a brief overview of the basic structure of Japanese insurance contract law and regulation of insurance companies, this article describes the characteristics of the coverage under private health insurance in Japan and, in particular, how it is related to its public health insurance system. The article also analyzes the approach of Japanese law on selection of risks by insurance companies, including the use of genetic information.
