Alterskriminalität in Japan – ein Festvortrag

Abstract

The speech highlights both the delinquency of elderly people in Japan and their increasingly significant role as victims of crimes. These are two highly topical issues of criminal justice in Japan, which are preceded by statistical data about demographic change given by the author. In particular, thefts and homicides are traced back to changing social conditions, and eventually consequences for detention, the penal system and rehabilitation are shown. Resulting from this, the author concludes that an increasingly punitive criminal law cannot remedy social shortcomings. When elderly people become victims of crime, they are mostly confronted with fraud, for which the author gives some typical examples.
